OpenAI Buys Orchestra Bio to Put AI Agents in Charge of Drug Development Grunt Work

OpenAI has bought Orchestra Bio, a San Francisco startup whose AI agents help drug companies keep sprawling development programs on schedule, the ChatGPT maker <a href="https://openai.com/index/openai-to-acquire-orchestra-bio/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener" class="sc-adb616fe-0 dJryYS">>announced Tuesday</a>. “Our goal is to help scientists make discoveries and manage the work needed to turn them into treatments that reach patients sooner,” OpenAI said in the announcement. Orchestra’s team and platform will be folded into <a href="https://openai.com/rosalind/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener" class="sc-adb616fe-0 dJryYS">>Rosalind</a>, OpenAI’s family of AI models and tools for biologists and chemists. The financial terms were not disclosed. Getting a new medicine from first idea to U.S. approval takes time—up to 15 years according to OpenAI. Every month shaved off that timeline is a month earlier that a new treatment can reach the people waiting for it, and a month earlier that the company can generate cash. The process is also absurdly expensive: bringing one approved drug to market can cost more than <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC12668846/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener" class="sc-adb616fe-0 dJryYS">>$2.6 billion</a>, and <a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2106.05386" target="_blank" class="sc-adb616fe-0 dJryYS" rel="nofollow">fewer than 10%</a> of candidates that enter human testing ever make it to pharmacy shelves. Beyond the science itself, OpenAI says drug teams have to coordinate work across internal departments and outside partners, often relying on systems that don’t talk to each other. Those partners usually include contract research organizations, the outside labs hired to run studies, and contract manufacturers that produce the experimental drug. Orchestra’s AI agents—software that can watch over tasks and flag problems on its own—work out which activities and deadlines take the hit, gather the relevant information and compare ways to respond, while scientists and program leaders make the final call. Founded in the fall of 2022, Orchestra raised its <a href="https://jobs.8vc.com/companies/orchestra/jobs/28818089-senior-software-engineer" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener" class="sc-adb616fe-0 dJryYS">>seed round</a> from Andreessen Horowitz, Definition Capital, Insight Partners, and 8VC, and about $20 million in total, according to <a href="https://www.caplight.com/company/orchestra-bio" target="_blank" class="sc-adb616fe-0 dJryYS" rel="nofollow">Caplight data</a>. The company should not be confused with Orchestra BioMed, an unrelated Nasdaq-listed medical device maker that trades under the ticker OBIO. In April, OpenAI launched <a href="https://decrypt.co/364783/openai-gpt-rosalind-drug-discovery-life-sciences-model" target="_blank" class="sc-adb616fe-0 dJryYS" rel="nofollow">GPT-Rosalind</a>, a model built specifically for biology and dru

OpenAI reviews PHP vulnerability incident: two months of secret coordination, but leaked early by a forum

Coin World News: OpenAI published a retrospective on the secret repair operation behind the PHP vulnerability incident. Security firms Calif and Wiz separately used GPT-5.6 SOL and Gemini 4 Argon to discover serious vulnerabilities in PHP. These issues had lain hidden in PHP's underlying code for more than a decade, and attackers could take control of servers hosting affected websites. OpenAI led the coordination among PHP maintainers, Wiz, Cloudflare, and other organizations, preparing patches and defensive measures, and communicated with the White House and U.S. cybersecurity agencies. The fix involved nearly 200 files and more than 10,000 lines of code. The vulnerability was originally scheduled to be disclosed on October 22, but on the 20th someone leaked the information early on the Hacker News forum, forcing the PHP team to issue an alert ahead of schedule and move the patch release date up by one day. Cloudflare confirmed it observed early attack attempts, and some government websites proactively went offline to avoid risk. On October 21, PHP officially released the fixed version, and websites needed to upgrade on their own. OpenAI called this period the "defender's window." Wiz research shows that AI models have significantly shortened the development time for complex vulnerability exploitation methods.

Jensen Huang unveils AI "prefab factory" DSX POD, deployable and operational in as fast as 14 days

CoinWorld news, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang announced at the GTC conference held in Berlin, Germany, the launch of the modular AI factory reference design DSX POD, which is planned to be delivered globally through partners in early 2027. The solution moves work such as computing, networking, cabling, rack power supply, liquid cooling pipe installation, and functional verification to the factory in advance. DSX POD can shorten the infrastructure deployment cycle from about 6 months under the traditional approach to as short as 14 days. NVIDIA stated that AI factories can create value only when they begin generating tokens, aiming to shorten the time from on-site readiness of infrastructure to the start of running production-grade AI workloads, enabling operators to generate revenue earlier.
