Minecraft, Candy Crush Among 11 Games in EU Virtual Currency Crackdown

European consumer authorities have opened eleven coordinated actions against ten video games companies over the way they sell and price in-game virtual currencies, the European Commission said Wednesday. The Consumer Protection Cooperation Network, which groups national enforcement bodies and is coordinated by the Commission, named Activision Blizzard UK, Crytek, InnoGames, King.com, Mojang, Plarium Europe, PLR Worldwide Sales, Riot Games, Supercell and Ubisoft EMEA in a joint statement. The games are Diablo Immortal, Call of Duty Mobile, Hunt: Showdown 1896, Forge of Empires, Candy Crush Saga, Minecraft, Mech Arena, Gardenscapes, Valorant, Clash of Clans and For Honor, picked for their broad reach, availability across devices and range of age ratings. The actions follow key principles the network published in March 2025. Those say the real-world price of in-game items and currency must be shown prominently, that traders should not mix several currencies or require repeated exchanges in ways that obscure cost, and that players should not be pushed into buying more currency than an item needs. Bundles that deliberately mismatch item prices, leaving players with a stranded balance, are among the practices to avoid. Players also keep a 14-day right of withdrawal, the principles say, including for virtual currency they have bought but not spent. Contract terms granting companies the unilateral right to change the value of in-game currency, or to close accounts without the possibility of contesting it, are flagged as unfair. Children are treated as always vulnerable, and any game not aimed exclusively at adults should expect a significant share of under-18 players. It also classes high spenders as a vulnerable group, saying so-called whales "are likely to struggle with impulse control or gambling disorders" and that games built around them face a stricter fairness test. Crypto sits outside all of it. Currencies that can only be earned through play, and never bought, are excluded too. The regime is aimed squarely at currencies bought with real money inside closed game economies. The acti

Thieves stole an Nvidia-branded truck carrying 20,000 pounds of sand, exposing Big Tech's $15 billion AI hardware theft problem.

According to Fortune, thieves stole an Nvidia-branded truck loaded with 20,000 pounds of sand, an incident that sheds light on the $15 billion AI hardware theft problem facing big tech companies. PlusAI confirmed that last week two trailers were stolen from its Fremont, California warehouse, one of which bore the Nvidia brand. Although PlusAI uses Nvidia chips for autonomous driving technology, the stolen trailers were not loaded with these chips, but instead contained 40,000 pounds of sand. The theft occurred at night, and staff discovered the trailers missing the next morning. Police recovered the trailers later that day. PlusAI said that since its founding in 2016, there had never been an incident of trailer theft.

Wyoming and New York sign a memorandum of understanding on digital asset regulatory cooperation.

The Wyoming Division of Banking and the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) have signed a memorandum of understanding on digital asset regulatory cooperation, applicable to entities engaged in or applying to engage in digital asset and virtual currency-related business in both states. The two sides will cooperate on licensing and charter approvals, joint examinations, enforcement, regulatory frameworks, personnel exchanges, and the sharing of non-public information. Institutions that have been licensed or chartered in one state for at least three years and are not subject to enforcement proceedings may receive expedited review if they apply for a similar license in the other state with a sufficiently similar business model, with regulators aiming to make a final decision within six months of application submission or receipt of historical examination materials. For institutions regulated by both jurisdictions, the two sides will coordinate examination arrangements as much as possible, conduct joint examinations, and share regulatory reports, and will notify each other of potential enforcement matters and exchange investigation progress.

According to CoinWorld news, the U.S. Congressional Research Service pointed out that since 2017, federal regulators have repeatedly changed their stance on banks' crypto business as administrations have changed, and suggested that Congress pass legislation to clarify the relevant authorities in order to reduce regulatory back-and-forth. Global bond selloff deepens as UK 30-year yield tops 6%

CoinWorld data: Global bond markets experienced a fresh round of selling on Thursday, pushing long-term borrowing costs to levels not seen in decades. The yield on 30-year UK government bonds broke through 6% for the first time, while the US 10-year Treasury yield also reached 5.34%, the highest level since 2002. Analysts pointed out that inflation concerns, rising energy prices, and increased government borrowing demand have prompted investors to demand higher returns on long-term debt. The UK's interest costs have approached 4% of GDP, roughly twice the average level of the decade before the pandemic. France's 10-year government bond yield is also close to 5%, while Japan has recorded rising sovereign yields for five consecutive quarters.
