Standard Chartered-led Anchorpoint says it’s not rushing retail stablecoin

The Standard Chartered and Animoca Brands joint venture previously targeted retail access as early as the end of 2026, but its CEO declined to reaffirm that timeline. Standard Chartered-backed stablecoin venture Anchorpoint says it will take a cautious approach to opening its Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin to retail users, declining to confirm a launch date after rival HSBC rolled out RedCoin, >according to the South China Morning Post. The venture released its institutional stablecoin product in August and previously >indicated a retail offering could arrive as early as the end of 2026. Anchorpoint CEO Dominic Maffei declined to confirm that timeline at a Friday press conference, saying the company would take a prudent approach. “We believe it’s important to build the market out in a long-term, sustainable manner,” Maffei said, adding that rushing a launch “does not make sense.” The update comes after HSBC launched its Hong Kong dollar-backed RedCoin on Friday for the 3.3 million users of its PayMe app. Anchorpoint grew out of a partnership between Standard Chartered, Animoca Brands and telecommunications provider HKT, which was announced in February 2025, following their joint participation in Hong Kong’s stablecoin issuer sandbox in July 2024. Animoca’s role is to bring its blockchain expertise and industry network to the venture and help develop uses for the stablecoin across the Web3 ecosystem. Related: HashKey begins beta distribution of Hong Kong-regulated HKDAP stablecoin

Google Quietly Updates Privacy Policy to Let Gmail and Photos Data Feed Ads

Google has carved out an exception to its long-standing promise not to use Gmail, Drive, and Google Photos content for advertising, quietly revising its >privacy policy so that data from those apps can help personalize ads when users connect it to the company’s AI features. The change, which took effect Oct. 16 and was first spotted by >Android Authority, adds a conditional clause to a pledge Google has made for years. The updated policy now reads that Google doesn’t show personalized ads based on content from Drive, Gmail, or Google Photos “unless you choose to make data from these services available to other Google services that support personalized ads.” The catch hinges on Personal Intelligence, Google’s push to make its AI tools more useful by letting features like AI Mode in Search and Gemini draw on a user’s own data. Connecting Gmail, Drive or Photos to those tools delivers more tailored answers, such as surfacing a hotel reservation buried in an inbox. But under the revised wording, that same connected data can now also inform which ads a person sees. Google stressed the limits. Content from the three services still isn’t used for ad targeting by default, advertisers don’t get access to the contents of anyone’s Gmail, Drive or Photos, and the company says it won’t share personally identifying details without permission. In practice, that means Google isn’t scanning private emails and photos wholesale to sell ads, but users who opt into its AI conveniences may be trading some ad privacy for them. Users can opt out by disconnecting the apps under Connected Content apps in their Google Account’s Data & privacy settings, or by turning off personalized recommendations, though Android Authority noted that previously collected data may linger in a user’s Search history even after disconnecting. The quiet rollout echoes recent Google privacy posturing around its AI ambitions. As Decrypt reported in May, Google’s Chrome browser began >silently installing a multi-gigabyte on-device AI model on users’ computers, and separately removed a privacy claim tied to its >Gemini Nano model, both moves that drew scrutiny over how the company handles user data as it races to embed AI across its products. Start every day with the top news stories right now, plus original features, a podcast, videos and more.

The Bank of Japan is expected to hold rates steady with a hawkish tone on Friday, leaving room for a December rate hike.

The Bank of Japan is expected to declare victory on Friday at its policy meeting in its nearly 14-year effort to achieve 2% inflation, and to emphasize the risk that prices could overshoot, hinting that a rate hike could come as early as December. However, analysts said the BOJ may avoid giving clear hints on the timing and pace of future rate hikes, as it needs to balance the risk of inflation overshooting against avoiding a premature hike that could disrupt already tense markets. People familiar with the matter said that in the quarterly report to be released after the meeting, the BOJ may slightly raise its price forecast for the next fiscal year and signal that underlying inflation has roughly reached the 2% target. Naomi Muguruma, chief bond strategist at Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities, said this is a historic moment for the BOJ, but it now faces a more challenging task because it needs to not only step on the accelerator but also on the brake. The BOJ may look at upcoming data and market movements to decide whether to raise rates in December or wait until January.

TrendForce: AI agent applications drive surge in server CPU demand

According to Kuai Technology, the latest research from TrendForce shows that the explosive growth of AI Agent applications is driving a surge in demand for server CPUs. Shipments are expected to grow 31% year-over-year in 2026, and with the rising penetration of Agentic AI, they are expected to grow by more than another 40% in 2027. This trend is directly reflected in the capital markets: since the beginning of this year, AMD's stock price has surged more than 130%, and Intel's gain has also exceeded 120%, far outpacing the more than 10% gain of AI chip leader Nvidia. The rally of the two CPU giants is breaking the conventional wisdom that GPUs alone dominate. The root cause of the demand explosion lies in a structural shift in workloads: AI Agents need to plan autonomously, invoke tools, and execute tasks across applications, and these control-flow-intensive workloads rely heavily on CPU scheduling and orchestration. The ratio of CPUs to GPUs within servers is evolving from the traditional 1:8 toward 1:2 or even 1:1.

Anthropic's prospectus could be made public as early as Monday.

According to CoinWorld news, Anthropic will publicly release its IPO prospectus as early as October 26 U.S. time and plans to list in mid-November. The company had already confidentially filed with the U.S. SEC back in June. The market had once discussed a $2 trillion valuation, but as AI-related stocks came under pressure, some investors have recently lowered expectations to about $1.5 trillion. In the first half of this year, Anthropic's revenue reached $16.3 billion, compared with only $1.1 billion in the same period last year. Over the same period, its net loss was as high as $80.7 billion, of which about $72 billion came from valuation adjustments on financing instruments such as convertible bonds and was not actual cash burned. Growth has also begun to slow, with third-quarter revenue reaching $16.8 billion, up about 45% quarter over quarter. The company says it has already achieved profitability on an adjusted basis in the third quarter, but future infrastructure commitments for cloud computing, chips, and data centers have exceeded $600 billion, with spending set to occur gradually over the coming years. In 2025, 47% of Anthropic's revenue was sold through the cloud platforms of Amazon and Google, both of which are also its investors and computing power suppliers.
