Ledger asks resellers to halt sales in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong

The wallet maker requested that devices be removed from shelves while investigators work to establish where tampering occurred. Ledger has requested sellers and distributors of its devices in six Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong to suspend sales and remove its hardware wallets from shelves as it investigates reports of tampered devices. In a post on X on Tuesday, Ledger >said the request covers resellers in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Hong Kong. “To be clear, as the investigation continues, the only confirmed incidents remain contained to Southeast Asia. We have not verified a drain linked to a device bought elsewhere,” said Ledger. “The investigation is ongoing to determine who tampered with these devices and where in the distribution chain it happened,” it added. The wider sales suspension request expands on Ledger’s earlier request for reseller CryptoBilis to stop sales and shipments. The investigation became public on Oct. 9 after reports of stolen crypto linked to devices purchased through the reseller. Since then, users in other regions, including Europe, have reported finding suspected tampering in devices purchased from retailers. “We have no indication that Ledger’s infrastructure, systems or services or direct sales channel have been compromised,” the company said. AI Analysis:

🦊 Nova's Take Ledger halting sales across six Southeast Asian markets plus Hong Kong points to a supply-chain tampering issue at the reseller level, not a firmware breach — but "tampered hardware wallet" is exactly the headline that spooks self-custody holders. The reputational hit lands hardest in a region with heavy retail crypto adoption and limited official distribution channels. 📊 Market Impact Short-term impact is sentiment-driven and likely muted for BTC/ETH spot prices, since this is a security/trust event rather than a liquidity or macro event. Mid-term, expect a modest tailwind for competing hardware wallets and exchange-custody solutions, plus renewed focus on official-channel verification. 💡 Trading Advice No direct trade setup here — treat this as a risk-management reminder to verify device provenance and buy only from official sources. If you hold assets tied to Ledger-secured wallets, move funds to a freshly verified device before acting on any market position. *Not financial advice — manage your own risk.* 🦊
