Google Wants Gemini to Be Your Next Coworker—Complete With Its Own Email Address

Google Cloud introduced a universal AI agent for the workplace on Thursday, one it says can take a goal, go off and do the work, and return with the finished result. CEO Thomas Kurian presented it at the company's Gemini at Work event, saying that "work now starts in the prompt window." The product, simply called the Gemini Agent, works inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Chat and Calendar, and also reaches into Microsoft 365 and Slack. Google says it keeps running in the cloud after you close your laptop, so a single task can stretch across hours or days. The most interesting feature is what Google calls coworker agents. A manager describes a role, such as events coordinator, and Gemini creates an agent with its own Workspace account: an email address, a calendar, Drive storage and a listing in the company directory. This is similar to what other agentic frameworks have explored. For example Grok popularized it with Grok Bot, OpenAI did the same with GPT dots, and Hermes introduced its bots feature offering the same functionality. The new agent connects to Salesforce, ServiceNow, Jira, Snowflake, BigQuery and any server that speaks Model Context Protocol, an open standard that works like a universal plug between AI and software. It also runs on more than Google's own models: Gemini currently orchestrates across Gemini and Claude models from Anthropic, routing each job to the one Google considers the best fit for quality and cost. Letting software act on its own raises obvious safety questions, and Google's answer is to treat each agent like an employee. Every agent gets a cryptographically attested identity, a digital ID verified through cryptography, and every action lands in an audit trail attributed to the agent rather than a person. All agents run inside an Agent Sandbox, a walled-off environment meant to keep software away from the rest of a system, and all their traffic passes through Agent Gateway, which Google describes as an "AI network firewall." Containment has failed before: in July, researchers at Accomplish AI reported that the local mode of Claude Cowork could escape its Linux virtual machine on Macs and reach files on the host computer. Cost is the other worry, since agents burn through tokens, the chunks of text that AI models read and write and that customers are billed for. Google says nearly 500 of its customers each processed more than one trillion tokens over the past year, and it added real-time spend caps: when a project hits its limit, the agent pauses until someone clicks to resume. Google did not publish pricing or a general availability date for the Gemini agent. The financial services and lega

The crypto market fell today, with $200 billion wiped out.

Coinpedia reports that over the past 48 hours, more than $200 billion has been wiped off the crypto market, with Bitcoin falling below $81,000 and Ethereum dropping to $2,450. About $1.4 billion in leveraged long positions were liquidated, including $410 million in a single hour. All risk assets are under pressure due to geopolitical factors. Trump said on social media that the United States might resume attacks on Iran, then later said there would be no military action against Iran before the midterm elections. Oil prices rose about 5%, pushing bond yields higher and turning U.S. stock index futures negative. U.S. bond yields are near their highest levels in decades, and in recent months, when yields and oil prices rose, stocks and crypto assets fell, and vice versa. The minutes of the Fed's last meeting were interpreted as hawkish, with one more rate hike expected in 2026. Higher interest rates increase borrowing costs and typically hurt speculative assets such as crypto.

AI crypto risks put lattice-based encryption under pressure

AI-driven mathematical advances could challenge assumptions about lattice-based cryptography, but no breakthrough has yet been established. Analyst Yash points out that hash-based signatures may offer an alternative where feasible, including the approach favored by Ethereum's lean roadmap. Unused addresses may reduce signature exposure, but rushed wallet migrations bring their own risks. AI could change the calculus of crypto risk sooner than expected. The warning is not meant to spark panic or a rush to move funds into new wallets, but it does put lattice-based cryptography under uncomfortable scrutiny. The concern is that AI-accelerated mathematical research could expose weaknesses in systems many currently consider secure, including ML-DSA, fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), and lattice-based cryptography. Yash emphasizes that current security estimates should not be treated as fixed, especially in light of the situation mentioned in Vitalik Buterin's X post.

U.S. prosecutors cite the Bitcoin Fog precedent in arguing for Roman Storm to be tried in New York.

Coin World News reports that U.S. federal prosecutors informed Judge Katherine Polk Failla that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit upheld the conviction of Bitcoin Fog founder Roman Sterlingov on September 25, supporting the trial of Tornado Cash defendant Roman Storm in New York. The appeals court found that Washington, D.C. has trial jurisdiction, citing the fact that law enforcement officers had deposited approximately $250 worth of Bitcoin into Bitcoin Fog from Washington, D.C. Prosecutors argued that user Shakeeb Ahmed had accessed Tornado Cash from his apartment in Manhattan, so the same logic applies. Roman Storm released this letter and pointed out that FinCEN withdrew the mixer reporting requirement proposed in 2023 on the same day.

GENIUS Act compliance deadline: Treasury's October 19 window

According to CoinWorld news, the Treasury Department's GENIUS Act compliance deadline is October 19, 2026, and this comment deadline provides the crypto industry with a final strategic opportunity to influence the regulatory environment before the January 18, 2027 enforcement date. As the ban on non-compliant foreign-issued stablecoins approaches, the lack of a clear comparability framework poses a major challenge to maintaining global stablecoin liquidity in the U.S. market. Industry stakeholders must use this period to advocate for clarity on the procedural mechanisms of Section 18, because the current lack of a pathway for foreign issuers could isolate the U.S. digital asset ecosystem from international liquidity pools.
