Singapore police report users lost S$3.5 million after purchasing tampered Ledger wallets.
Singapore police report that cryptocurrency users have lost approximately S$3.5 million (about US$2.6 million) after purchasing tampered Ledger hardware wallets. Since September 10, police have received at least two cases involving tampered Ledger devices. Investigations found that the affected devices were physically modified to steal users' mnemonic phrases or private keys, resulting in unauthorized access to their cryptocurrency assets. Ledger has been contacted by police and is reviewing the cases. The losses follow Ledger's investigation into compromised devices distributed through Cryptobilis. On October 13, Ledger confirmed that hidden hardware implants were found in theft incidents reported by users, capable of capturing mnemonic phrases and transmitting information via LTE connectivity. Ledger stated that the malicious component operates separately from the device's secure element and does not affect the protection of private keys.
