CoinWorld news: US stocks opened lower today, with tech and AI stocks selling off following Alphabet's (Google) earnings report. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.4%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.6%, and the S&P 500 declined 0.5%.
QatarEnergy purchases long-term LNG to hedge against Strait of Hormuz risks.
Biji.com news: Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, CEO of QatarEnergy, said the company is procuring long-term liquefied natural gas supply from the United States and other producers to ensure it can still generate revenue in the future if exports through the Strait of Hormuz are disrupted. Al-Kaabi noted that if the strait is closed, natural gas prices will surge immediately, and QatarEnergy will thereby obtain revenue it would otherwise not have been able to earn. The company signed a 20-year agreement with Woodside Energy to purchase 3 million tons of LNG per year from its U.S. facilities. In addition, QatarEnergy signed two agreements with Cheniere Energy to purchase up to 40,000 tons of LNG from its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi plants through 2054. Over the past two weeks, the total scale of these deals reached 70,000 tons. Al-Kaabi said more deals are forthcoming, and LNG deliveries from Cheniere Energy are not expected to begin until 2031.
