French Finance Minister: Europe will release 42 million barrels of oil reserves in the next three months.

French Finance Minister Lescure said on Thursday that Europe will release 42 million barrels of oil reserves to the market within the next three months to fulfill its commitment to lower energy prices. Half of the oil released will be diesel. The Group of Seven (G7) agreed last month to release up to 100 million barrels of oil, after 400 million barrels had already been released in March under the coordination of the International Energy Agency (IEA). Lescure said that the 10 million barrels of diesel reserves France announced it would release last month will enter the market in the coming days, and the impact on prices is expected to be felt as early as next week. He said this batch of reserves will be supplied to the market at cost price and is expected to reduce diesel prices by 12 to 18 euro cents per liter.
